Easy

I take it easy as I learn new skills to adjust to my current situation.

In the face of adversity, I take it one step at a time as I acquire new skills and habits that are most adaptive. I remind myself that I have the capacity to learn and grow. I have the ability to change.

I view problems as an opportunity for my development as a person. I gently encourage and reassure myself that it's okay to take my time and practice skills I haven't had to do previously. I don't expect to function on a proficient level, but instead, I feel accomplished in my effort. I acknowledge that I am taking steps in a new direction, and I affirm my growing capacity to handle what life brings my way.

Tip: Due to our world's current pandemic, many people are learning new skills or filling new roles. These skills may include everything from learning new technology to learning how to homeschool their children. Have current circumstances put you in a position to learn a new skill or approach things in new ways? Perhaps you are trying your hand at carpentry, home repairs, cooking, or new technology? Or maybe you are finding yourself homeschooling your children or working fulltime from home with a partner. Perhaps you have lost your primary source of stress reduction or entertainment and are now considering a yoga or mindfulness practice.

Consider your situation a prompt to learn something new. As you strive to make changes for your good, establish "easy" steps in the right direction and affirm yourself for small gains. Allow time to learn. Tell yourself it's okay to try repeatedly. Most of all, celebrate your gains.

I am currently offering HIPPA-compliant video conferencing for individuals and couples. Couples are experiencing these video sessions to be a supportive method of accessing communication coaching in the comfort of their home. To schedule, call me at (816) 359-1885.
