Repeatedly doing the same thing gets us the same results. When we make a shift in our views and our approaches, everything and everyone around us will be touched by that shift and have a new experience or opportunity as a result. These weekly affirmations and tips provide you with a chance to try on a new idea or approach. They are invitations for you and those in your life to experience more profound respect and caring in your relationships.

I am quick to repair any ruptures in my relationships.

I make sure that my loved ones know that despite disagreements, I value and love them. Ruptures or conflict are simply an opportunity to gain new insight into one another. If conversations turn to arguments that in turn lead to hurt feelings and anger, then we simply have not yet found a way to fully hear our loved one's concerns and/or needs. As I approach my loved one, I take responsibility for letting them know I am interested in understanding them and having them understand me.

Tip:  Conversations to understand each other’s feelings and needs are very different than conversations to convince each other. One is competitive, which leads to someone feeling dominate or as if they have given in. Conversations with the intention of understanding, seek to see things in a new way and search for alternatives that honor both people’s needs. Conversations of this sort reveal new possibilities for happiness and progression in the relationship.

The main objective of Imago Therapy is for couples to practice, with the support of a skilled therapist, conversations that reveal the potential for greater happiness and health for them both. If you would like to experience an Imago Therapy session, please call me at (816) 359-1885.
