We are drawn to the familiar. To experience something new, we need to become familiar with the thoughts and feelings in our minds and guide them to be consistent with the life of our dreams.

Our thoughts are the guiding force of our behaviors. Habitual thoughts may cause us to repeat unhappy patterns. These weekly Affirmations and Tips are designed to help you replace these habitual thoughts to enhance your life and your relationships.


Safe Space 

I honor the feelings and needs of others as well as myself.

My feelings and needs are not in conflict with any other person. We are both completely worthy of respect, kindness, and consideration. A way must be found in which both of us are valued in order for the exchange to be authentic. I am willing to communicate fully in my relationships and remain alert to the path that acknowledges both individual’s presence. To create a safe environment for others, and myself, I honor their feelings and needs, as well as my own. 


Tip:  Decide that anger is not a way to make your point. We live in a highly competitive society in which winning or dominating seems to be the goal. In the media we see roasting, demeaning, debating, and criticizing. Models of healthy communication are not readily available to help us learn the skills that lead to mutual satisfaction and harmony.

Try to envision a better way. Slow down and prioritize creating a safe space for yourself and the other person to communicate fully. Avoid the need to come to a definitive conclusion or make demands. Instead remain open to your own feelings and needs, as well as the feelings and needs of the other person.
