The Self-Awareness Series
Welcome! This series of affirmations and tips are designed to enhance your self-awareness, the quality of your relationships, and your overall happiness.
Our patterns of thinking lead to our perceptions of ourselves and others, and out of those perceptions we react and take action. By selecting our thoughts, we begin to form new ways of processing our experiences and develop conscious, productive ways of interacting with life.
Making lasting change requires persistence and support. I am here to support you in identifying specific barriers in your process and to help you practice new approaches consistent with your best self. Call me at (816) 359-1885 to schedule an Individual Session or Couples Imago Therapy.
I am firmly grounded in my own body and sense of self.
As I move through my day, I feel my feet on the ground and my breath entering my body. Maintaining awareness of my physical body and the ground beneath me allows me to fully show up in this now moment.
In this now moment, I am available to make a difference in my own life and the lives of others. When I retreat into worries or plans, I am in the realm of imagination. I strive to come back and live grounded in the now moment with intention and vision.
Become Mindful of Your Five Senses
Sometimes when our mind is going in multiple directions, we can feel as if we are spinning out of ourselves. Taking the time to still your mind and ground in your physical body will allow you to intentionally focus energy and take action that is helpful.
As part of your mindfulness practice, notice your five senses. What are you smelling, physically feeling, hearing, tasting, and seeing? Turn you mind inward and find three sensations in your body such as tingling, itching, throbbing and so forth. As you identify your sensations, experience them in a matter-of-fact way, without judgment, knowing that our physical experience is in a constant state of change. The more neutral you are toward your sensations, the more you will be able to learn from them and the more you will be able to feel grounded and calm in your interactions with others.
