In order to experience something new, we need to become familiar with the thoughts and feelings in our minds and guide them to be consistent with the life we want to live. When we shift our thoughts and self-talk, our approach to life changes. Everything and everyone around us will be touched by that shift, and we will have the opportunity for a new experience as a result.

Positive 

I make positive, self-supportive requests.

When I communicate a request to my partner or loved one, I give clear direction that supports the experience I want to have, and I ask if they are willing. While I recognize they have the freedom to decline my wish, I know I am affirming myself by making positive requests. Whether it is affection, a listening ear, help around the house, or time together, I communicate my need or desire. This sets me up to receive and also to appreciate that the other person is giving the gift of Love if that is what they choose to do.

  

 

Tip: By asking others if they would be willing to meet our needs, we are doing two important things. First, we are acknowledging our own feelings and needs. This may feel vulnerable, but in actuality, it represents self-knowledge and self-support. Secondly, by making a request clearly asking if the other is willing, we are supporting their freedom to give. When someone gives freely, we can receive their time, kindness and so forth as genuine expressions of their Love. In these moments, focus on deeply accepting the gift of responsiveness your loved one is giving you.
